The College of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare (COSRH) have issued a statement advising that “available evidence supports use of the etonogestrel implant for up to 5 years, with maintained contraceptive effectiveness and no new safety concerns identified”.
This is a change from the previous advice which means that the use of the implant has been extended from 3 years to 5 years.
